Got on the train at Liverpool Street with a load of blokes dressed as Great War commonwealth soldiers. The SIKH fellow look tremendous, have to say.

Who could fail to be moved by this - a great tribute.

Lest we forget

The figures from both wars never fail to both amaze and sicken.

Over 100 million people died, including 45 million civilians from allied countries in WWII.

Absolutely ridiculous - 13% of the entire Russian population in WWII.

Long after we're all gone these men and women should never be forgotten, for the sacrifices they made for their countries and families.

A 100 years ago if I was in the same trench as mentor I'd get that Lee Enfield ... stick it in my mouth...pull the trigger... and blow my fucking brains everywhere...

Grumpster 11:47 Fri Jul 1
Re: Battle of The Somme
I imagine the Brits, French and Germans did FC.

1 million casualties is obscene in one battle.

Young men from all sides sent to their death.

60,000 on the first day... basically a fifth of Iceland population...

Didn't we lose a whole generation in one morning of the battle?

Agree with Hairy and Grumpster.

FFS - all this thread needs is a simple RIP

Re: Battle of The Somme
Ilford, you need to read the new book about Haig, completely debunks that myth and many others.

Stop being so precious sweetheart. My comment may have offended someone who lived in Croydon, but wasn't in the slightest bit disrespectful to those who died or were wounded.

Re: Battle of The Somme
This was one of the most disgraceful military exercises in our history. Thousands of young men driven to their deaths by inept generals who would shoot those who wouldn't drive forward. A whole generation of children never born while those generals received their medals. But no, you're not allowed to say this on this site are you? Wankers.

This.

Any chance a MOD could remove Ilford and mentor's "contributions"?

And this one.

Re: Battle of The Somme
Always a shame when people feel the need to air their negative thoughts/grievances on threads like this, regardless of which side of the fence you sit on.

It's like the people who feel the need to be the last person to shout out before someone serves in tennis, just be quite and have some respect.

Never any need to disrespect something in memory of so many brave young men, who died so needlessly.
